Jaime Albert Trost was diagnosed with Right-Sided Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia at 19 weeks gestation. He was born at 34 weeks gestation on 4/16/09 as a hemophiliac with his liver and intestines in his chest. Jaime had his 1st repair surgery at 23 days old. He re-herniated in September 2009, causing his bowels, kidney and liver to be up in his chest. He had his 2nd repair surgery at 194 days old. Though Jaime still has many medical challenges ahead of him, today he is a thriving toddler who has beaten the odds!

501st Post from Cincy

WOW, it's been over a month since I've last posted-and this is my 501st post! So much has gone on. Jared completed the 2nd grade and turned 8. Tom and I both turned a year older and Jaime has had LOTS of digestive issues! Not to mention SUMMER is HERE!!!!! :)
So, here I am sitting in Newport, Kentucky writing a post from our hotel room. We spent 8 1/2 hours at the hospital today!
Here's the quick update....I say "quick" because it could be longer, but I'm whipped, so I'm going to touch upon the highlights!
Height roughly 33 inches, give or take! Weight, 26.4lbs.
FEES Study-NORMAL (a study where a fiber-optic camera is placed in the nostril and down the top of Jaime's throat-YES, he HATED it!)
Video Swallow Study-NORMAL He choked a bit during it, which is what he does a lot at home, the result of that was that he's not chewing properly and his gag reflex kicks in.
Then, we spent 4 1/2 hours in hematology where we ended up having a comprehensive visit. We met with the the nurses, educators, social worker, hematologist...and (my favorite)....a DENTIST! It came up that Jaime hadn't seen a dentist yet, so the hematologist had one come up to see Jaime. While he absolutely HATED it, we got relatively good news...other than some plaque, his teeth look good! :) We do, however, have to try to break the sippy cup habit, which for a kid with feeding issues, will be difficult, but he gave us some really good pointers! We also need to get in touch with a pediatric dentist at home. Oh and Jaime's has 4 more teeth to come in until he has a "full mouth!"
During the hematology visit we were able to get BOTH boys official Medical ID Alerts and we are setting up a home care team for Jaime to receive IV Factor at home. (I'm not up for messing with his tainted little veins yet.) He will be needing IV Factor post-op for several days. Also, we're getting some prophylactic factor for home and when we travel. Finally, we ended the appointment with 3 needle pokes for blood! While it was awful for Jaime to have to get poked 3 times, the nurses were really great with him. Jaime got the final draw from his foot...and it was the nurses first time doing a foot. Me being who I am, cheered her on and told her she could do it...hey whatever would work. Drawing from Jaime is like trying to get blood from a turnip! The following are just a handful of pics that we took over the last 24 hours.
On the road again!
Delirious baby who needs a nap!
Backyardigans on the iPod, works, too!
Chillin' @ Titi's House!
Our Columbus Pit stop!
Saying "bye-bye" to Face.
Am I in Dad?
By the looks of the skyline, we MUST be in Cincinnati!

Look what the ENT nurse made for Jaime before his FEES.
Yep, and a sticker, too! (Jaime is OBSESSED with AT&T)
It worked for the FEES, we took it to the swallow study.
Jaime on the phone with Jared on our way back to the hotel from Bev's house where we had a yummy cook-out! Thanks, Bev! :)

So, that's the our day! We get to start all over again tomorrow at 6:30 A.M. Good times! Although, in between appointments, we're looking forward to seeing more of our CDH Friends! Good Night, all!
