The Holidays have come and gone...and now we're at the hospital.

For those of you that don't know...Jaime has been admitted to Cincinnati Children's Hospital today. This is the week that we're FINALLY getting the rest of his digestive studies done. Today has been quite a busy one. It started with us driving from Columbus to Cincinnati, (thanks Titi and Michael for letting us spend the night and having dinner with us). We got to the hospital right at 10:00 am. We were admitted to A4South 39 (for those of you locals/nurses that are available for a visit). Once here, we had an amazing nurse and PCA. (Jessica and Tiffany). They called the Childlife Specialist, Patty to explain the NG and IV's to Jaime. She came up and Jaime helped her insert an NG in her doll, Theo.
Patty & Jaime inserting an NG in "Theo."

After the explanation, it was Jaime's turn. Needless to say, he wasn't as cooperative as Theo was! ;) The nurse started with an IV....it blew, of course, sooooo, she poked him again...nope, lost that one, too. Then she called the IV team to come up and do it. While waiting for them, she inserted Jaime's NG. He turned a nice shade of purple/blue and gagged through it all. Once recovered from that...lo and behold the IV team was here! One of the girls ALWAYS gets Jaime's IV's...and the 1st time, too! Today was no different! Thanks, Brynn!!!! :)

After the IV pokes and NG.

After that, Jaime was wiped out! He fell asleep on me and his IV and NG fluids were started. He's getting Golyetly through the NG. One would think that it would work on a little guy, right? WRONG! This is JAIME that we're talking about. So after 6.5 hours, 800mls later of Golyetly, the decision was made to irrigate Jaime's bowels. We thought the NG was bad.....man, colon irrigation is 10,000 times worse! :( Tom, the nurse, PCA and I felt absolutely horrible for Jaime. He was crying so hard and it took a long time, too. The goal was to get him "started." Well, we heard that he has an order to irrigate his colon every 3 hours unless he can go on his own. I am happy to report that he literally JUST went....8 minutes to spare! PHEW!!!! Clean up, room 39!

Tomorrow he is due to go to the OR at 1:00 pm, providing we get him fully cleaned out by then, so that he can have his manometry studies started. They may do biopsies as well. If they do, Jaime will need to come home with IV factor for his hemophilia through the weekend again. As for the hemophilia part, he will be dosed tomorrow before going to the OR to cover him while they are messing with him. The whole procedure...if all goes well, should take an hour or so. Please keep Jaime in your thoughts and prayers tomorrow afternoon....going to the OR is ALWAYS scary.

On to happy news...we had amazing holidays! We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas with my family, the boys had so much fun. Thank you to everyone who sent cards, presents and overall well wishes for the holidays!
A couple of new toys.
After Christmas, the Kozik Family came to town. They have Emily, a left-sided CDH'er, also born in Cincinnati. We had a blast with them...we need to visit more often for sure! (They live in Illinois).

Then, for New Year's, my in-laws came to town. Tom had a gig, so Jared, Tom's mom and I rang in the new year together (Papa and Jaime slept! ;) So, that brings us to today!

Here's hoping that 2012 brings all of us good health...and ANSWERS for Jaime's issues! :)

Happy New Year, everyone!
