Surgery AGAIN!

So, Jaime is preparing for yet another surgery...this will be his oral surgery and it's scheduled for September 11th in Cincinnati. I will be taking him down to Cincinnati on September 10th and he will be getting admitted after his surgery. I'm not sure how long we'll be down there, hopefully only a few days. I'm also not entirely sure what will be done to him. Last time we were in Cincinnati the dentist talked about a few different things from extractions to root canals. We won't know until the dentist gets Jaime into the OR to see exactly what's going on.
I can tell you that this week Jaime had to visit our local dentist. He has a big mouth sore on his upper gum. The dentist looked at it and said that it was probably a canker sore and that it would be gone in the next week or two. I told her that it had been there for over two months (it was there, but much smaller when we were in Cincy last month) and that it's getting larger. He's complaining much more about it...and his mouth is even a bit red on the outside, too. She looked at it again and then found another sore in his mouth right between his two front teeth. Ironically, both sores were in areas that have teeth damaged under them. Soooo, she put him on an antibiotic. I looked in his mouth today (having been on the antibiotics for a few days), it looks GREAT! See, sometimes, Mom really does know best! ;) This HOPEFULLY will get us by until we can get down to Cincy for surgery!
Another appointment we had was with the orthotics place. Jaime did get his orthotics a few weeks ago, however, in Jaime Trost fashion...they didn't quite work out as planned. Jaime got giant bruises on his heels from that and that was from only having them on 1 day for a few hours. (Not even walking in them because he doesn't quite know how to do that yet.) He has the orthotics for his toe walking, but since he doesn't know how NOT to toe walk, this was difficult for him. So, we went for an adjustment this week, but I can't put the orthotics on him until his blisters are completely healed. Hopefully they will be by next week when his PT comes back. She really wants to teach him to walk properly in them.

Oh and speaking of therapy...Jaime was able to have a few sessions with a speech therapist from the county this past month. She was working on Jaime making more and longer eye contact. He seems to be a bit better with it. He just need constant reminding....especially when you have to tell him something important. Also, Jaime had a new OT come out and evaluate him. Jaime still doesn't have a hand dominance. This was a concern to me, especially with starting preschool (by this age, Jared was writing all sorts of things...all of his ABC's, 123's, his name...upper and lower case, he could draw shapes, etc.). Jaime, however doesn't even know what hand to use let alone how to hold a pencil (or feeding utensil for that matter). She told me that he's simply not ready to write yet and that he will on HIS time, not ours. We should not choose a hand for him, as it will cause different issues as he gets older. So, we're sending him to preschool, not potty-trained and not knowing what hand he wants to use! Eh, why not?!? ;)

In other Jaime news...he's set to start preschool at Wickliffe Elementary School next Wednesday. He will be going on Mon. Wed. and Thurs. and will be going with a nurse again. He will be able to ride the bus or in the van, whichever they find to have a/c in it. Jaime simply can't tolerate heat/humidity much like other CDH kiddos. He's super excited to go to "Jared's School." He picked out a "CARS" backpack and Colleen gave him a matching "CARS" lunch box for his snack and Pediasure. I took all of his school supplies up there yesterday when I met with the staff for another IEP meeting. Jared came and brought his things up there, too. I'm soooooo ready to have both of them back in school...they really need the routine.
