Hospital Update

Yesterday was pretty eventful...and a turning point for Jaime. After being lethargic all of Friday and Saturday into yesterday morning...we were able to "snap" Jaime out of it. It all started with Jaime pulling his NG out. Well, the dr took the tape off and Jaime just "helped" by yanking on the tube! This boy is too smart for his own good! (hahaha) After the NG tube was out, Jaime was able to have sippy full of Pedialyte and an enema. Then, "Uncle" Dale came to visit. After a little while, we gave Jaime Tylenol.
Once the Tylenol started to kick in, I made sure that I got Jaime up in the stroller and took him for a walk. We played with the gears on the wall and stopped by to check out the fish. (Jaime wasn't up for the playroom yesterday.) After the walk, I gave Jaime a nice warm bath changed his bed and sat him up in bed with some toys. Shortly after that Jaime had visitors. Jared and Nana came up for a visit. Then, Nurse Darlene and her husband Mike came for a visit. After a few hours the Tylenol was starting to wear off and Jaime was getting crabby, so everyone left. Jaime went to bed about 7:00pm last night, but not before drinking 2 cups of apple juice and eating Jello! :)
He had an uneventful night. His IV alarm kept going off because he was crimping his IV line. I asked if we could d/c it because he was peeing well and drinking. It wasn't d/c'd, but it was cut in half. Then this morning came. Jaime was FINALLY aloud to have full liquids from clear ones. This meant that he could have Pediasure. Of course, we are in the process of changing his Pediasure to Pediasure Peptide. Jaime is less than thrilled about this change and refuses to drink it. To be honest, I think it smells a bit better than the other Pediasure. Nana is coming up for a visit later and will be bringing some Hershey's Syrup as Jaime is on a chocolate kick lately-maybe that will help him drink it?!?
So, the plan for today is to advance his diet to full liquids, possibly solids by tonight and give him an enema. BUT....in the process of writing this, Jaime is taking care of that part without the enema! Woohoo! PROGRESS!!!! Jaime was also able to have his IV fluids d/c'd (he still has his IV line) and have his IV Amicar d/c'd, too. The Amicar is a hemostasis medicine given because of his hemophilia. He was supposed to be getting it orally since his dental surgery, but he was unable to get his full dose because of being sick, so they started it IV here. His tooth looks GREAT and Saturday was the last time it bled! :) His nose bled a little when they pulled the NG out, so he's getting nasal lotion for that, which is helping. Other than that, he's on routine meds! :)
So, the drs said the only thing keeping him here now is feeding! We've heard THAT before haven't we?!? If he can start to drink his Pediasure and tolerate it, we can advance to solids. If he tolerates solids well, and has a bowel movement, we can go HOME! The goal is discharge TOMORROW! The surgeons just walked in here for rounds...took one look at him (while he was pooping on his own), and said, "he doesn't need us!" HURRAY!!!! Let's hope Jaime starts to cooperate in terms of feeding and we can get discharged tomorrow! :)

 So, he's on the mend and that's all we can ask for! Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers, I know that our church family prayed for him during Sunday service yesterday (Jared told me). That's the scoop, you can just see the progression in his day! This is all great news!
