Jaime Albert Trost was diagnosed with Right-Sided Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia at 19 weeks gestation. He was born at 34 weeks gestation on 4/16/09 as a hemophiliac with his liver and intestines in his chest. Jaime had his 1st repair surgery at 23 days old. He re-herniated in September 2009, causing his bowels, kidney and liver to be up in his chest. He had his 2nd repair surgery at 194 days old. Though Jaime still has many medical challenges ahead of him, today he is a thriving KINDERGARTENER who has beaten the odds!

17 months old-tomorrow!

So I was a day premature on my posting! What really happened was exactly one year ago today, Jaime went the the ER and was admitted to the PICU for the very first time ever due to his reherniation that went undiagnosed for 4 weeks! UGH....how I will NEVER forget that little adventure, what a nightmare! Poor kid!

Stats: 21.08 lbs, 31 in. tall about 3% for weight and 20% for height! His head is 18.75 inches, which is over 50%! Overall he's growing on his own terms! :)

Folks we have ourselves a walker! He doesn't walk all of the time, nor is it any better than in his video from the previous post, but nonetheless, he walks EVERY DAY now. He actually WANTS to walk! Jaime's PT told Tom today that we may be able to for go the leg braces, we'll see! Contrary to Jaime's OT who said that we will have to get a wrist/hand brace for Jaime's right hand...he's still curling it in the wrong position.

As for eating...Jaime does that on his terms, too. Some days better than others, but overall much less than in the past. Often he'll go days without much eating except for a few puffs here and there, other days he eats stellar! (For him, anyway!) The last two days have been "good" eating days! Jaime continues to drink his Pediasure with Boost 1.5 cal. We're learning that Jaime tolerates his formula much better, meaning less gagging and vomiting when he only gets 2 to 3 oz. at a time. The only problem with this is it seems like we're feeding him all day!

Jaime, while not feeling 100% due to teething (he has 10 teeth & 2 on the way), got to meet lots of family members over the weekend at the "Buttari Family Reunion." It was also my mom and dad's 40th Wedding Anniversary, we were able to do a mini celebration for them at the picnic...pic-a-nic as my niece, Sophia, was calling it! We all had a great time! Here are a few pics of Jaime from the reunion...I will make a slide show on the side of the blog with all of the photos from the reunion when I get some time to upload them.

And I'll end the blog with a sneak peak at Jaime's 2010 Halloween costume!

  1. Oh my goodness, what a sweet post. He is just thriving. I love it. I'm still waiting to get the walking video of the twins walking. They walk on their own terms. And definitely NOT when you want them to. LOL.

    Love to read your updates!
