Jaime Albert Trost was diagnosed with Right-Sided Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia at 19 weeks gestation. He was born at 34 weeks gestation on 4/16/09 as a hemophiliac with his liver and intestines in his chest. Jaime had his 1st repair surgery at 23 days old. He re-herniated in September 2009, causing his bowels, kidney and liver to be up in his chest. He had his 2nd repair surgery at 194 days old. Though Jaime still has many medical challenges ahead of him, today he is a thriving KINDERGARTENER who has beaten the odds!

Surgery Update.

Jaime had his surgery yesterday...2nd set of ear tubes in and his adenoids out. He was admitted to step down post-op and discharged this evening. He did well over all. He had some bouts of pain and bleeding from his ears and mouth. His mouth stopped and then his nose started bleeding (only Jaime, I swear)! His right ear is still oozing tonight. We are due back to the hospital tomorrow morning for a recheck of his bleeding. His Factor VIII level was pretty low even after getting Factor, so he still has his IV. Also, he's not been drinking as he should. I think he's up to about 16 ounces since midnight on Easter. They were going to keep him again tonight because of that, but we decided that he'll be reevaluated tomorrow and that we'd just be wasting a bed if we stayed there tonight again. Not to mention that we were in a step down pod with other babies....who spent most of the night crying. Jaime and I hardly got any sleep. I was ready to come home and rest and the first thing Jaime did was had a little bit of Pediasure and fell asleep in my arms.
He did come home on lots of medications...2 antibiotics (oral and ear drops), 2 hemophilia meds, pain meds and an ointment. He's just now starting to wake up...which is good because he's due for some medicine. As I said, we'll be back to the hospital tomorrow. If he's not hydrating well on his own, they will probably readmit him. The good part is, that after 8 pokes, he most likely won't have to get poked if he does get admitted because he will already have a line. Here's hoping he starts to drink more and feel better. You can tell that he's still having a lot of pain. Oh and a final note...Jaime's ENT confirmed that he will need his tonsils out, but he wants him to be bigger so that he can tell us if he's bleeding or in pain. (yep, another surgery in our future!)
That's all for now...Jaime really needs his mommy...here is a slide show of pics over the last 2 days. Please continue to keep Jaime in your thoughts and prayers as it looks like he's in for a tough recovery-his ears are still bleeding as I type! :( Thank you!
