Jaime Albert Trost was diagnosed with Right-Sided Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia at 19 weeks gestation. He was born at 34 weeks gestation on 4/16/09 as a hemophiliac with his liver and intestines in his chest. Jaime had his 1st repair surgery at 23 days old. He re-herniated in September 2009, causing his bowels, kidney and liver to be up in his chest. He had his 2nd repair surgery at 194 days old. Though Jaime still has many medical challenges ahead of him, today he is a thriving KINDERGARTENER who has beaten the odds!

1.5.....

Jaime's 1.5 k/cal Pediasure came today! Woohoo!!!!
He drank 1 1/2 cans (sippy cups) this evening! So far it's stayed down...sooooo hoping it continues! That stuff is 350 calories a bottle! Jaime's weight is just about 31.5lbs. The goal is FIVE cans a day. The drs. want him to have 1800 calories a day. (1750 from the Pediasure and the rest from food). We'll see how this works out. Today, Jaime ate OK, but then he threw up after lunch...and up came all of his lunch and breakfast. He did eat a bit more after and ate a smidge of food tonight. He had a 1/2 piece of cheese, a few tiny bites of pot roast and a spoonful of mashed potatoes. Jaime has to prove that he can gain some weight on his own, or he'll end up with a g-tube. We talked about possibly putting down an Ng tube (nasal gastric feeding tube) just to see if he actually gains, but I'm not sure when/if we'll do that. We have our appointments in Cincy next month, Jaime's goal is weight gain...any weight gain before then! Keep your fingers crossed! :)

Hoping everyone stays cool, it's a scorcher out there this week. You know Mr. Jaime will be indoors because he can't handle the heat very well at all. I had to go to one of my Thirty-One Customer's houses tonight, I brought the boys...Jaime's little cheeks were flush just riding in a car with the a/c blasting! Just another "side effect" of CDH! Heat and chronic lung disease do NOT mix! :(

Anyway, stay cool!

I'll keep an update on how the Pediasure 1.5 goes!
