Jaime Albert Trost was diagnosed with Right-Sided Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia at 19 weeks gestation. He was born at 34 weeks gestation on 4/16/09 as a hemophiliac with his liver and intestines in his chest. Jaime had his 1st repair surgery at 23 days old. He re-herniated in September 2009, causing his bowels, kidney and liver to be up in his chest. He had his 2nd repair surgery at 194 days old. Though Jaime still has many medical challenges ahead of him, today he is a thriving toddler who has beaten the odds!

August....ALREADY?

As usual, much has happened since my last post. I can't believe I let yet another month go by without posting....bad mommy!
Here's the latest scoop....The high calorie formula prescribed in Cincinnati in late June was a bust. Jaime didn't tolerate it at all. So, we went back to our old Pediasure standby...in which Jaime has grown to love! (Just wish it would love to make him grow.) Speaking of growing, he hasn't gained a single pound since Cincinnati, in fact he's been a yo-yo up a few ounces, down a few ounces, ultimately, he's 6 ounces less than he was while in Cincinnati. He continues to have significant bowel issues. He's been on and off O2 just to have a bowel movement, it's very sad to watch. I've called Cincinnati several times since our visit relaying all of this to them. The last update I got from them was that the GI wanted to speak to the surgeon to see if there was any other pertinent tests that should be done, whether they be in or out or the OR. I still haven't heard a final decision on that, I'll share the news once I do. In the midst of all of this, Jaime completely stopped eating. We couldn't figure out why, I was totally thinking it was his stomach, turns out somewhere along the lines, he had yet another case of tonsillitis, this time with sores in his throat, too which could have been a case of hand, foot and mouth, but he didn't have a single sore anywhere else. He's all better now, though! :)
OK, enough about medical stuff for a minute...it's SUMMER, let's talk about summer things....like trips! We have been on TWO trips since my last post! First we had the unique opportunity to attend the Annual CDH Conference hosted by Breath of Hope, Inc., in St. Louis, MO. There were so many amazing things about that trip! We got to meet several CDH families...all of whom I hope will continue to be part of our lives for years to come! :) We also got to stay at Tom's Aunt's house in St. Louis while attending the conference (thank you, Elaine). If that wasn't neat enough, we picked up Tom's parents in Indiana to come with us, so we got to visit with almost all of the Trost's while we were in St. Louis! (We were missing my brother-in-law and Fam, as they live in California and weren't able to come that week!) While in St. Louis, Tom and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary and enjoyed a home cooked meal with family. We couldn't have asked for a nicer evening...except for the fact that Jaime had one of his desat/pooping episodes. (We literally contemplated a trip to the ER because it was so bad.) But, in the end, all was well. Then, on our drive back to Indiana, we got to go to Legoland in Chicago where we met up with Tom's Aunt Lois and Uncle AJ. (It was their first time meeting Jaime!) We had soooooo much fun on that trip! We really enjoyed our Epic Trip of 2011...I think we're always going to have a summer Epic adventure, the boys really travel well now for the most part!
The following is a slide show of our Indiana, St. Louis, Illinois trip! Enjoy the pics!

Trip #2 happened just this past Wednesday when we decided to go visit my parents in Maryland. It was Jaime's first trip to Grammy & Poppy's house....and I think he LOVED it! My mom is an amazing cook, I was THRILLED to be back in Maryland, as we haven't been in there in over 3 years (pre-Jaime). I was feeling crummy the day we left, I actually went to urgent care that day and was diagnosed with strep, when we got to my parent's house, my mom had homemade wedding soup on the stove waiting for me! YAY!!!! My mom's food was soooooo delicious that BOTH of my boys (as well as Tom and I) ate very well! Jaime was a little piggy! I'm thinking we need to go to Maryland once a month to fill that boy up, he'd put on some calories for sure! There's just something about Grammy's cooking! Mmmmmmmm!!!!! =) While we were in Maryland, my father took us to the National Air and Space Museum, I don't know who liked it more, Jared or Jaime. Both boys had a blast! Then, we went to the Fire Truck Museum...it was sooooo cool! Jared got to ring the old fire alarms and learn about how things worked pre-911. Jaime was able to wear some firemen gear and looked super cute! It was really fun! In the midst of all of that, Grammy took Jared school shopping! He, of course, hated it, but was able to get some awesome deals and is ready for school to begin on August 25th. I was even able to get a jacket, yes, folks that right, I got a jacket! I LOVE it, my mom helped me pick it out! (Thanks, mom!) I can't wait to wear it! Who would have thought that I, the queen of no jackets all winter long, would say that? Anyway, that was a really fun trip, Tom and I were very glad we were able to visit and are thinking it may be pretty fun to go there for Christmas! (What do ya say, Mom & Dad? Christmas in Maryland?!?)
Below you will find just some of the many pics we took over the last few days in Maryland. We just got back a few hours ago and we're ready to start our work week, well, I am, Tom's off another week or two yet! ;)

Well, my friends, it's getting late and I have to work in the morning, I'll close with a reminder that the Annual Hemophilia Walk is just around the corner. It's on Saturday, August 27th, 2011. I need all Team Walkers to sign up and share your T-shirt size with me, ASAP. I need to have all t-shirt sizes in by Tuesday, my sister has come up with another amazing design for our team shirts, we have to get them ordered THIS WEDNESDAY to get them by Walk Day. I don't want anyone on the team to miss out on getting these unique shirts! For those of you unable to walk, we are collecting donations as well! We'd like our team to raise $2000, so far we have raised a total of $660. This year our team will be called Jared and Jaime's Afterburners, with a tagline of "boosting into action." All Jared's idea and we LOVE it! The following link will take you to our team page where you can sign up to Walk or Donate! I do help you'll be able to support us this year! http://my.e2rm.com/TeamPage.aspx?langPref=%3FEventID%3D71091&LangPref=en-CA&TeamID=216534 Thank you in advance!!!!
