Jaime Albert Trost was diagnosed with Right-Sided Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia at 19 weeks gestation. He was born at 34 weeks gestation on 4/16/09 as a hemophiliac with his liver and intestines in his chest. Jaime had his 1st repair surgery at 23 days old. He re-herniated in September 2009, causing his bowels, kidney and liver to be up in his chest. He had his 2nd repair surgery at 194 days old. Though Jaime still has many medical challenges ahead of him, today he is a thriving KINDERGARTENER who has beaten the odds!

January 14th, 2009
Met with Dr. Stork (NICU). Yes, that's her "real" name. She told us that University Hospitals and Rainbow Babies & Children Hospital only deliver about 4 to 8 CDH babies a year. She gave Jaime a 20% chance of survival and explained the techniques that they do at UH. We spent about an hour and a half with her. We were supposed to tour the RB&C NICU, but Dr. Stork told us that a new one was opening in March, 2009, so we should visit then. We agreed and came home. Grammy took care of Jared this day! Not to mention spent just about every morning before school on the floor playing Legos with Jared.
