Jaime LOVES to sit up all on his own, now that he can!
Nearly 10 mos. old stats
Height: 27 3/4 inches (good news...Jaime grew 3/4 of an inch since last month)
Weight: 16lbs. 4 oz. (bad news...Jaime lost 3 ounces since last month)
Jaime's height puts him at 5-7% and his weight takes him off of the chart completely. :(
Jaime saw the pulmonologist Wednesday, his lungs are healing nicely from his bronchiolitis. The base of this right lung still isn't great, but it's significantly improved (honestly, I'm not sure it will ever be "great.")
The next steps are to see GI (on the 19th) and have a stomach emptying study (on the 22nd). The plan is too keep things the same until we have the next two appointments. There is still some aspiration and reflux concern...there was even talk of replacing Jaime's NG. Trust me, at this point, I don't think that can happen....he's all too aware of things these days! We also had about a 30 second talk regarding a g-tube...NO! Not cool in a hemophiliac! Everyone is still concerned about Jaime's weight...I get that, but, honest the boy eats...and rather enjoys it, too! Not that he eats everything offered to him...nor does he tolerate everything, but he keeps his formula down...and he's growing in length...that ought to count for something right?
Jaime's first McDonald's French Fry. Loved to suck on it, but wanted nothing to do with it when a piece of it broke off in his mouth. I'm not overly upset about him not "tolerating" the texture of a french fry! LOL!!!!
By the way, the blanket Jaime's laying on is a very special one, made just for him from another NICU mom in Akron, Ohio. Thank you, Cousin Cookie for having the blanket made for Jaime, we bring it everywhere just as you've asked! :)Jaime has had very busy days this week. Lots of therapy sessions! Yesterday he met with the EI speech therapist. She's working on verbal sounds and communication with him. Although he's not completely where he should be, she said she likes what she's hearing! :) As for Jaime's EI OT, she was super impressed with how far he's come just in the last few weeks (me, too). Today, Jaime's EI specialist came to evaluate him...while there are many things Jaime is doing that is equivalent to a 7 month old, she feels that there are things he is approaching or even advanced in. So overall a good week...of course, our day had to end with not one, but two Synagis shots! :( Looks like from here on out, he'll be getting 2 shots every month...which actually may only be for 2 more months...until next flu season. He was just over the amount for one shot! Boy did he cry, well over a half hour. He cried so much and so hard that he started turning blue...on the O2 went at 3/4 of a liter! That's where we've kept it all evening. That was super traumatic for him, especially since he's not one to cry. Actually, it takes a lot of work for him to cry and it's hard for him to cry loudly, I felt terrible for him. He's been restless tonight, but finally starting to settle.

Anyway, like I said...some good news, some bad news....either way, Jaime's "nearly" 10 months old! I can hardly believe it! (Big birthday plans are already in the works!:)

I know I've said it before, but Miss Dakota is now 13 and 1/2 months old, and she only weighs 16lbs 8oz, so Jaime is big compared to her=)!! She goes up about 1/2 lb per month (used to be 1 lb but she has slowed down since she started moving so much and often plateaus for weeks at a time). (Jaime probably lost a few ounces because he started sitting ... at least that's what would happen with Dakota when she would reach a milestone). She has never been on the growth chart and no one talked to me about a tube of any sort for a long time ... that's just how she rolls. I honestly don't think it holds her back any ... she crawls like a champ because she doesn't have much weight to take with her and she seems very close to walking. I admire Jaime's eating skills! I think he will start slowly going up again soon.

ReplyDeletei know how you feel about the G-Tube seth is eating with out the help of a tube he use to have it until nov 08 but the doctors kept pushing it on us cause he wasn't gainning weight like they wanted him to. i think once the get going on their weight they will get that curve going seth is betwwen 24-24lbs and is only 2 yr old but i do understand about the G-tube
