Jaime Albert Trost was diagnosed with Right-Sided Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia at 19 weeks gestation. He was born at 34 weeks gestation on 4/16/09 as a hemophiliac with his liver and intestines in his chest. Jaime had his 1st repair surgery at 23 days old. He re-herniated in September 2009, causing his bowels, kidney and liver to be up in his chest. He had his 2nd repair surgery at 194 days old. Though Jaime still has many medical challenges ahead of him, today he is a thriving KINDERGARTENER who has beaten the odds!

Another Day, Another Dr. Visit

Jaime wasn't getting better, so I called the pediatrician yesterday to have him seen today. I was mostly concerned about his cough, lungs and lowered sats. We went this morning and it's been discovered that Jaime has bronchitis, bronchiolitis and an upper respiratory infection. The dr. asked if I thought Jaime was wheezing....Nope! Well, after listening to Jaime's lungs, the dr. said that Jaime IS wheezing at the end of his exhale, but unless you have a stethoscope, it's hard to hear. Having said that, Jaime's back on his aerosol treatments...we actually started those back up again 2 days ago and he's on steroids...oh and his antibiotic, of course. The dr. said he's confident that we can take care of him, so we can keep him home...this is always nice to hear!
So, his little infection has progressed, but all things considered, Jaime's "handling" this illness very well. A few months ago, he would have absolutely been admitted. While this is very encouraging...Jaime will be put back on "lock-down" come flu season...sadly, it's just around the corner! (So get your visits in soon! ;)
Here's a picture of Jaime from yesterday...poor, miserable little boy!

We'll be on the mend soon...there is light at the end of the tunnel! :)

Until next time...
