Neuro Appt.

Jaime went to his Neurology follow-up today at CCF. First some stats...he weighed in at 21.02. This is a few ounces up from last week, but he's been very constipated, too, so I'm thinking this isn't an "accurate" weight. They measured him just under 32 inches and his head is 18.7 inches. He's still 3% for weight, but doing better with the height...around 25% and his head is just over 50% which is WONDERFUL! :) Overall, Jaime's stats are good! His physical exam was a little more interesting. We talked about lots of things from where he is developmentally to having him "walk" around the room for the drs. to watch. As usual, this appointment was several hours long. The doctors are really great, three of them...all attendings, came to look at Jaime.
A few things that were noted is that his fontanel (soft spot) on his head is still widely open, this should be completely closed by 18 mos. since Jaime is already over 16 mos. old, there's a good chance that this will not be closed by that point. We also spoke about Jaime's fibula fracture, sunken in pectus and high-arched flat palate. We have come up with a plan to try and find answers to some of these things. Today, Jaime had blood work done, poor little guy needed so much blood taken out of him that he had to get stuck twice because with the first line they only got about 1/4 of what they needed before it blew. They were able to get another line in, this one actually swelled up his arm pretty badly, you can tell that even now it still hurts him. They were able to take out about 20mls, which is about half of what they wanted, but the girls made it work. I wouldn't let them poke him again...two sticks and that's it! (That's my new "Mommy Rule," for BOTH of my boys...anything after that is just cruel!)
Some upcoming appointments will be with Endocrinology (based on the labs where they are checking for vitamin deficiencies, Jaime's Osetopenia, and poor nutrition), Ophthalmology (for his lazy eye & they want annual checks anyway), Genetics (for a variety of reasons, including to rule out a few syndromes) and we will be having another sleep study with an EEG to rule out seizure activity. (We don't think he's having any, but it's Neuro, of course they need to rule it out!) He's feeling better, overall, too, though he's still up coughing at night. He has a few more days of his antibiotic, so perhaps he'll be 100% better by the time he's done with it?!? So, that about sums up our day!
Tomorrow it's back to work for me and Jared's first day of 2nd grade! :~)
Before I close I want to share another "first" for Jaime...tonight, he ate green beans...6 of them! Woohoo! Here are some pictures that I took of Jaime with his green beans! He never even ate these in the baby jar, I'm so proud of my little monkey!
