Jaime Albert Trost was diagnosed with Right-Sided Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia at 19 weeks gestation. He was born at 34 weeks gestation on 4/16/09 as a hemophiliac with his liver and intestines in his chest. Jaime had his 1st repair surgery at 23 days old. He re-herniated in September 2009, causing his bowels, kidney and liver to be up in his chest. He had his 2nd repair surgery at 194 days old. Though Jaime still has many medical challenges ahead of him, today he is a thriving KINDERGARTENER who has beaten the odds!

Another Day, Another CDH Family Reunion.

While continuing on in our epic journey, we landed in Chattanooga, TN where we had the pleasure of having dinner last night with the McBrayer Family. We met them last year in Cincinnati, their son, Carter was born on May 21st with left-sided CDH and was cared for at Cincinnati Children's Hospital at the same time Jaime was there. Beth and I spent lots of time together in the NICU and at Ronald McDonald House, too. We had so much fun having the boys meet for the first time last night. Carter is doing GREAT! He had his moments with unexpected CDH issues...and had his g-tube removed in Jan. He eats like a champ...I told them I'm jealous! He's very close to walking and is quite the climber like Jaime is! We're hoping to coordinate appointments in Cincy later this year! If we can't, we'll just have to have an annual reunion! :) So great to see all of you, thanks for rushing out of work and downtown to meet up with us last night!
Two Toddling, CDH Toddlers

Here is a slide show of pics we took last night!
Enjoy!

Today, we are FINALLY headed to Cincinnati, (we're currently in Knoxville,TN) where we are planning on meeting up with the Adler's. They are coming in for appointments, as well! Today will be the first time that Jaime and Carter Adler (CDH NICU Buddies) will "officially" meet! (They've both seen each other in passing...Carter once was sitting by his NICU door when Jaime was being wheeled back from the playroom-during his 2nd NICU admit). We're all very excited about this reunion, too! :) And tomorrow night, we're looking forward to a "CDH Cook-out" at the Luken's house! We're going to be able to meet up with our "old" Cincy CDH Family again! I'm thinking there will be lots more pics to come.....

Until next time....

P.S. Today is our 8th Wedding Anniversary, last year we joked about all we wanted was to be home for it...(we were, by 3 days)and here we are a year later heading back to Cincy! HA!

  1. Ditto! We had such a great time with you all - Trost family. It was especially delightful to see Jamie. I can't believe they are over one year old. Truly amazing how much they have grown and accomplished in one year!! Marissa had fun with Jerrod splashing around in the water. Hope we can reunite in Cincinatti, Ohio this year.

BTW, happy 8th year wedding anniversary. We just celebrated 10 years - my how time flies (or doesn't sometimes) JK!!
