Jaime Albert Trost was diagnosed with Right-Sided Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia at 19 weeks gestation. He was born at 34 weeks gestation on 4/16/09 as a hemophiliac with his liver and intestines in his chest. Jaime had his 1st repair surgery at 23 days old. He re-herniated in September 2009, causing his bowels, kidney and liver to be up in his chest. He had his 2nd repair surgery at 194 days old. Though Jaime still has many medical challenges ahead of him, today he is a thriving KINDERGARTENER who has beaten the odds!

Trost Family Benefit Dinner & Auction

Unfortunately, saying “Thank you” doesn’t begin to do justice for the wonderful event that Trinity Lutheran Church put on for us last night. When Pastor Schuler mentioned that the congregation wanted to do something for us, we had no idea it would be so big! So much hard work and preparation went in to putting the benefit together for us and it was just PERFECT! There was not a single detail left undone! They had posters with pictures of our family, tables perfectly set; including a special table for us, beautiful flowers, a LIVE band (how cool was that?), more auction items than I could even count (I’m not sure anyone went home empty handed last night!), then there was the food…mmmm, the delicious pasta dinner, meatballs, sausage, garlic bread, salad and if that wasn’t enough, tons of dessert! Surely no one went home hungry!
Tom and I are so humbled by the event. We don’t feel like we did anything special to deserve it. We were just faced with an unfortunate situation and we did what any parent would do for their child. We spoke with Pr. Schuler many times after we were told about Jaime’s birth defect; in fact he was the first person we shared the shocking information with. Pr. Schuler gave us spiritual advice and advice from his own personal experiences. He gave us the strength to do what we felt was best for our family. As you know, we decided to give Jaime a chance and we sought out the best medical team available to achieve the best outcome possible! Cincinnati Children’s Hospital had that team. It was more than worth the 4+ months stay in Cincinnati to have the opportunity to bring our little Jaime home for all of you to meet.
A special thank you goes out to Pr. Schuler for sharing our family’s story with the congregation while we were away and for the beautiful prayers last night. Also, we’d like to thank Shawn Ambrus for being the emcee of the evening (and his wife Heather for keeping an eye on Jared during the event! :-) Jared had a blast with Devin and Haley!). Thank you to the “Golden Notes” band for being such great entertainment. Also, thank you to Sylvia and Bill Fleming who, along with many others, put many hours into making last night just perfect!

We thank you all for the fabulous evening last night and for your continued support throughout our journey with Jaime. The generosity you have shown for our family means more to us than you will even know! Last night was proof that we are truly blessed with such wonderful, caring people in our lives.

A little note about Jaime…last night was the biggest thing he had been to ever. We actually kept him in all week, with the exception of his dr. appointment, just to take him to the benefit. Let me just say, that he has been asleep literally all day! He’s only been waking up for his bottles and then back to sleep he goes! He’s definitely “partied” out! :-)

I will be posting all of the pics we took last night on the side of the blog for your viewing. If anyone from last night took photos, we'd love to have them emailed to us and I will add them to the blog, too! Thanks!

Before I close, I'd like to ask you to direct your thoughts and prayers to two special CDH Families in Cincinnati, the DiGregorio's and the Adler's.
Giavanna is recovering this weekend from, what turned into a major surgery involving her entire digestive system and Carter is resting up this weekend for his open heart surgery on Wednesday. Thank you so much for thinking of them, as they are all very special to us.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!!!
