Interesting Change of Events...

Today started out nice, we slept in a bit (until 8:30), then came up to the hospital. We bathed Jaime and fed him a bottle. Then, he spit up on himself and me, so we gave him another bath. After that bath, Jaime fell asleep so we went back the hotel to eat lunch.



It was during that time that we received a phone call from Titi, Jared had fallen and hit his head on the sidewalk. Apparently, Jared met a little girl at the park and she had one of those motorized ride-on toys. She told Jared to get on and as he was getting on, she hit the gas pedal and he fell off backwards.

We asked Stacy to take Jared to the ER at OSU because we knew that they had a hemophilia treatment center there and that he would receive factor very quickly. Tom and I drove up to Columbus to check things out. Titi was AWESOME with Jared. She had to help hold him for his IV and walk him to Cat Scan (She's still the best Auntie in the WORLD, in spite of this little mishap...it could have happened anywhere). Jared does not have an open wound nor an internal bleed, it's just a large bump on the back of his head and on his shoulder. The drs. at OSU decided to have Jared admitted to a children's hospital for observation. This probably wouldn't have been normal procedure, but since he is a hemophiliac, they felt that it was necessary. Tom and I opted for Jared to be sent back to Cincinnati Children's Hospital where Jaime is and where the drs. know him.
So, after a 5 1/2 hr. ER stay, the ambulance came to transport Jared 2 hours back down to Cincy. I road with him and Tom drove our car back.
He cried a lot in the beginning and didn't want to come down, but in the end, thought it was "pretty cool" and wanted me to take pictures to show all of his friends...HA!
He's been admitted to the 3rd floor of building A, Jaime is on the 4th floor of building B. It's been a bit interesting walking back and forth to both boys' rooms.
I am currently with Jared, this is where I will stay the rest of the night. Tom just went back to the hotel. He figured one of us needed some sleep tonight. HA!

Overall, Jared is fine, just really sore. He said his head hurt when he was laying down and that his shoulder was bothering him. The nurse gave him Tylenol and now he's fast asleep. (Jaime is, too by the way.) The drs. have also decided to give him Factor every 8 hours instead of every 12 like they originally said. Most likely he'll be released tomorrow. His rounds are at 9:00ish, Jaime's are at 11:30...we'll know more on both kids then.

As for Jaime, he's OK. The goal tonight it to wean his flow to 1 liter if possible. He just had a little brady (low heart rate) and desat episode. Emily thought it might be due to reflux. He's fine now. His heart rate is in the 160's and his sats are in the high 90's. It was scary for a minute there, but Emily calmly got us through it! :-)
