Jaime Albert Trost was diagnosed with Right-Sided Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia at 19 weeks gestation. He was born at 34 weeks gestation on 4/16/09 as a hemophiliac with his liver and intestines in his chest. Jaime had his 1st repair surgery at 23 days old. He re-herniated in September 2009, causing his bowels, kidney and liver to be up in his chest. He had his 2nd repair surgery at 194 days old. Though Jaime still has many medical challenges ahead of him, today he is a thriving KINDERGARTENER who has beaten the odds!

1 Month in Cincy!

We'd like to wish Aunt Jess and Uncle Scott a very happy 7th anniversary! We hope you guys did something special today! :-)

As for us, well, we've officially been in Cincinnati for one month! While we really miss our friends and family back home, each day we're here, we have Jaime and get one step closer to recovery (baring any unforeseen issues).
Jaime will be having another echo and blood cultures in the morning. Hopefully, the cultures will come back negative and the echo will be just fine! The goal now, is surgery mid-week.
Mr. Jaime had another "good" day. He was awake most of the day. I know I've said this before, but it's GREAT to see him "act" like a "normal" baby! My parents got to see him alert and they even got a few smiles from him, of course, none of us have caught a smile on camera yet. Poppy bought Jaime a stuffed giraffe rattle that he was playing with this evening, he seemed to like it. (It's the orange animal in front of him in the pic.) Also, I bought him some mittens for his hands because he keeps unwrapping his dressings from them. They seemed to do the trick! Jaime's O2 was down to as low as 27 tonight and his rate on his vent was turned down to 45. From a CDH standpoint, he's pretty stable. His skin issue is under control now, too. He looked GREAT today! Just his picc line in his arm was still red and irritated, but overall, his skin looks good. The nurses are doing a fabulous job with keeping his skin clean, adhesive-free and dressed appropriately! We appreciate all that they do for Jaime! (They are all very kind to Jared, too-thanks, girls!)

Jared's doing well, he enjoyed spending time with his Grammy and Poppy. He even suckered Poppy into buying him a Matchbox helicopter (probably because it was orange and that's Poppy's favorite color) and an Icee at Target after our yummy dinner! Thanks, Grammy and Poppy for coming for a visit!

Carter, Jaime's CDH buddy, had a good day, as well! His infection is getting better everyday and his CDH is stabling out!

That's about all from Cincy!

Please keep Jaime and Carter in your thoughts and prayers, as we're all hoping their tests this week have great outcomes, so they can proceed to the next step in their medical care!

Hope everyone has a nice week!

Sheryl
