Extubation Day! Take 1!

5. Extubated, chubby cheek,Jaime!! This calmness lasted for just a few moments before he really started working hard to breathe on his own. We gave him 30 minutes before re-intubating him with a bigger tube. Prior to that, Jaime was turned to the c-pap setting on the vent for 15 minutes and was doing awesome, satting at 98%. This means that he was taking his own breaths with the machine giving him continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). Great try, little man! :-)
4. Jared dressing Jaime after I washed him and changed his dressings. Jared loved helping out with his baby brother. He's so gentle with him.

1. I posed this question once just after Jaime was born, but I pose it again....who's bigger? Sneaky the Mouse or Jaime? Sneaky is wearing Jaime's very first preemie outfit, it's too small for Jaime now, but it fits Sneaky nicely. BTW, I think Jaime wins this time, he's hovering around 7 lbs. (depending on the day) and is 20 in. long-give of take. Not bad for a preemie who's 38 weeks gestation (adjusted age)! Can you imagine if I went full term? Jaime would have been around 9 lbs. or so! HA!

So, based on my picture descriptions, you can tell that we had an eventful day. Starting with extubation, to high flow O2, back to intubation. Then, he had his picc dressing changed. Next, he had a "bath," had the rest of his dressings changed. Then got dressed by his brother. He also had his bandage taken off of his incision...it looks OK for the most part, there's just about a 3cm area where the skin has broken down likely due to the EB (Jaime's skin biopsy is not back yet, but the drs. are thinking that he does indeed have EB, hopefully we'll know more by the end of the week.) He had a few changes with his medications and his foley d/c'd. With luck he should be starting feeds tomorrow.
Other than when he had to breathe on his own, Jaime was very happy. Lots of smiles today! Oh and when he was extubated, they flipped him on his tummy to breathe better, well, Mr. Jaime actually pulled himself up a few times on his hands and moved his head, too. He's a strong, feisty little thing! :-)

As for Mr. Carter, he's doing well. The drs. are trying to coordinate a few things pertinent to his surgery, hopefully Carter will be repaired soon! We love being in our new Pod space. We're pretty far from Carter, you can just barely see Carter's Pod-space in the picture behind Titi and Jaime. We're up by the door and Carter is in the back corner. We get to see Jeremy and Carrie come and go, though...that's right kids, we've got our eyes on you! LOL!!!

I just did my nightly call to check on Jaime, Kristy told me that he was up smiling and batting his eyes at her and Mandy for about 20 minutes. So, I guess not only is he feisty, he's a little flirt, too! HA! He's so darn cute! We hope that God-willing, one day, you will all get to meet him!

P.S. I almost forgot...we had yet ANOTHER fire alarm with an evacuation today at RMH! Fire truck with the water hoses out and everything! Somebody "cooking" something inappropriately in the microwave again! Jared is "tripping" over all of these alarms! We texted Nana to let her know...HA!
