Jaime Albert Trost was diagnosed with Right-Sided Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia at 19 weeks gestation. He was born at 34 weeks gestation on 4/16/09 as a hemophiliac with his liver and intestines in his chest. Jaime had his 1st repair surgery at 23 days old. He re-herniated in September 2009, causing his bowels, kidney and liver to be up in his chest. He had his 2nd repair surgery at 194 days old. Though Jaime still has many medical challenges ahead of him, today he is a thriving KINDERGARTENER who has beaten the odds!

Jaime Update!

So, I bet you all thought you'd be reading a post-op posting from us...well, no, that will not be the case, at least not today.
Tom and I got up to the hospital at 6:30 A.M., we sat with Jaime until rounds at 7:00 A.M. We went back in at 7:20 A.M. The OR team came, the surgeon, anesthesia, respiratory, he was hooked up to the portable machines ready for transport to the OR...and then the phone rang! The blood culture that they took from him last night came back positive for a blood infection. So, the surgery was canceled.
Jaime looks great, his sats are good and his O2 is at 30%. He was awake and even moved his head opposite of the way he was being turned. It was kind of funny. (The nurse and R.T. didn't think so!)
Jaime will still be having his skin biopsy today as his Factor VIII levels are very good. He has also been put on 2 antibiotics and they're hoping to do surgery next week.
So, that's today's update! We can all breathe a little easier for now!

    Blood infection can be common in EB and are very serious. Do you know what bacteria is growing in his blood?

    I see from the pictures that they are using Mepitac which is good. Are they using anything under the gauze? When used alone gauze can stick to the wound causing more damage when removed. Many with EB use Mepliex products inbtw the skin and the gauze. Also, Conco conforming gauze the much softer than the typical brand hospitals tend to use.

    Hopefully the blood infection will go away soon.

    Thinking and praying for y'all!! That's so amazing you got to hold him!!! What a treat for any CDH parent??!! I know Jamie loved having his mommy's arms around him. It just comforts me to see the picture of y'all.

    Many prayers being sent from Alabama for Jamie and your entire family. May God wrap His healing arms around that precious boy.

    Sorry the surgery was postponed but maybe for the better with the blood infection and all. Praying the antibiotics do the trick and surgery can be rescheduled soon. Praying for a quiet, restful recuperating weekend-with no "blue" episodes for Jaime and a nice quiet weekend for mommy and daddy too! Keeping you all in my prayers!

    Things happen for a reason - and the delay - perhaps it also wasn't a good time for Sir Jaime - he is adorable!
