Birthday Toys/Uneventful Day for Jaime

Well, Mr. Jared woke us up at 6:00 A.M. to help him finish putting together his Lego helicopter. After it was finished, he got out his new video camera from Titi and started videoing everything from his toys to Jaime (you can see him in the photo showing Grammy his videos). In fact he used it so much, the batteries died! HA!

As for Jaime, Grammy and Poppy visited him again this morning. Poppy held him for the first time, too. Jaime's rounds weren't all that exciting, however, Jared managed to entertain us this morning during them! Today's biggest change is an increase in his calories from 26 to 28. He only gained 15 grams for the week, which is much less than the drs. want. Jaime's echo was a bit better from the last one and he's still holding at 4 liters with good blood gases! So, overall, he's improving, we just need to put a little more weight on him (even though I think he's chunky) and get him strong enough to wean his high flow again. From what we're told, this is the "boring" part in the process. It goes very slowly, as only time will make him stronger! Just for the record, once he does get to 2 liters high flow, we will be able to start orally feeding him. Depending on how he does with that, the doctors will then decide when the appropriate time to close Jaime's fascia (abdominal muscle) will be. Yep, Jaime will still have to go back to the OR to finish the repair! There's also some talk about a potential heart cath to get a true measure of his pulmonary hypertension, but nothing is concrete as of yet.

So, that's my update on Jaime! All and all, he had a good day!

As for our other CDH friends in the RCNIC:
Giavanna is scheduled to have her repair surgery tomorrow, please say an extra prayer for her and her parents. As we've learned, this is both an exciting and scary time for everyone.
Carter A. is 50 days old! He is having an ML & B procedure on Wednesday, this in one of the procedures that Jaime had in the OR a few weeks ago to check for airway issues. Let's send some positive thoughts their way that there are no unforeseen issues.
Carter M. had a big day, he had his Nitric Oxide discontinued today which is one HUGE step in the right direction!!
We wish nothing but the best for all of our CDH friends, they are all proving to be strong little fighters!!! :-)
We also want to give a shout out to the nurses, doctors and staff in the RCNIC, you are truly gifted and we appreciate all of you!!!
