Jaime Trost Day of life 50!!!

Everyday in rounds the NP (nurse practitioner) gives a run down of Jaime's stats, labs, etc. The first thing they always say is "Jaime Trost day of life ___." Well, today, I heard "Jaime Trost, day of life 50."
We can not believe that Jaime is already 50 days old! It doesn't seem like that long at all (OK, on most days it doesn't). Jaime is starting to develop a bit of a personality, he has a very calm, cool, demeanor. He's very cuddly when you hold him. He doesn't cry much at all. He does have moments where he's not happy, but overall, he just goes with the flow. Thank goodness, it makes life easier for the nurses to do their care, as well as the physical and occupational therapists.

Today, Jaime needed another blood transfusion. That was his third since birth. Once he got transfused, he was feeling great! He was up for several hours. I held him and even "played" with him. He discovered his new "mirror" friend and really enjoyed looking at him. He also like laying on his boppy, belly-side down.
As for other news on him, Angela from physical therapy came to evaluate him today. He actually tolerated his session well. We're all trying to prevent Jaime from getting torticollis, like Jared had, among other things. Also, we're still trying to figure out what position will work best for Jaime's respiratory status. He had to go back up to 5 liters because he's working hard and desatting a lot. Overall his blood gases have been good, in spite of him breathing really hard and fast. I was told that he will always breathe a bit abnormally because of the CDH and compromised lungs. Poor guy!

In other news, the boys are home safe and sound. Tom called and told me that the first thing Jared did was play outside both on his swing set and in his taxi. Then, our neighbor Evelyn came out with bread to feed the birds. Feeding the birds is a little thing that she and Jared have been doing for the past few years. After that, Jared ran to his room. He went home to a surprise, Grammy bought new bedding and curtains for Jared's room and reorganized his closet. Tom said Jared initially stopped at the door, looked in thinking something was different and then ran to his toys saying "I missed my toys so much." He even started hugging all of his stuffed animals, ha! Once he realized what was different (the bedding and curtains), he really liked it! He didn't have any problem getting to bed tonight. Tom said he fell asleep very quickly! He's finally back in his comfort zone...at least for a few nights.

Tonight I went to the Olive Garden with Bev and Jeanie. It was fun to go out with them and nice to take a break from the hospital (I was there from 11:00 to 6:30 today) thanks, girls! I didn't go back up to see Jaime tonight because I don't have a car and walking late in this neighborhood is not a good idea. I called, Emily said he was just fine.
