As of rounds, moments ago, Jaime's surgery is a "GO" for tomorrow at 7:45 A.M. Jaime did have some significant desats over night and this morning (he even had to be bagged)...we witnessed him turning "blue" last night! This was SOOOOO scary. They said it is happening because he is making thick secreations and choking on them. Dr. Kingma (pulm) said that he's over oxygenating and that they are going to turn down his Flolan (lung medicine) to see if that helps.
Jaime's been seen by Dr. Tiao (surgeon), Dr. Hirsch (cardiologist) and Dr. Kingma (pulmonologist) so far today, in addition to the CDH Team. Dr. Crow (dermatology) is floating around and Dr. Tiao made the decision to have the skin biopsy done in the OR tomorrow rather than disrupt Jaime's day today. Also, during rounds, it's been decided to put Jaime back on the Hydracortisone, which should help with his blisters. Hematology hasn't been around yet, but they also have a pre-op plan in place for Mr. Jaime.
We met with Dr. Tiao in private who explained Jaime's repair surgery to us. It should take about 2 hours and he will be getting an incision just under his right lung. Dr. Tiao is planning on using lazer instead of a knife for the incision. (He said it may scar more, but it's better for the bleeding issue-I didn't care, too much, Jaime's a boy, he'll think scars are "cool!") We also found out that Dr. Tiao is part of the liver transplant team, what better surgeon to have repositioning Jaime's liver than a liver transplant surgeon? We're very pleased with him and his surgery approach! Dr. Hirsch explained to us that Jaime's pulmonary hypertension looks good and that surgery typically does not increase that. I feel better about the whole surgery thing...now if you ask me tomorrow, I'm sure I'll feel much different!
In other Jaime news: This morning it took Cayse (Jaime's nurse) 2 hours to do his dressing changes. They look so much better, though and we thank her for taking the time to make sure that they were all clean and medicated appropriately. His lips are almost completely back to normal. This is all due to no tape being on them and the creative R.T.'s here.
So, that's my update. Please continue to pray for an uneventful surgery and for Jaime's CDH buddy, Carter who's having a rough time!
Thanks, I'll try to post pics of "Mummy" Jaime later,
Love,
Sheryl

Will be praying for a very successful operation tomorrow for your champ and an easy post-op!! Will be watching for the update that he is out of surgery and holding his own. You sound like you have a wonderful team of doctors looking out for Jaime's other issues as well. We are praying for Carter too.
